When a serious crisis arises, societal expectations on religious organisation are considerable, and good cooperation between religious organisations and municipal actors for  well-functioning crisis management is considered significant. Yet little is known on the resource contribution of religious organisations to local municipal crisis management. Through a case study of a bus accident in Värnäs, Sweden, in January 2023, and based on interviews with a selection of personnel from the municipality and involved local religious churches, this Batchelor thesis aims to study how local Christian denominations support their local municipality in dealing with a local significant incident or crisis. This thesis uses so called S.W.O.T analysis of the interview material to identify points of learning from local crisis management cooperation with religious organisations, including the significance of relative resource distribution between religious organisations, and the perceived importance of personal relationships för well-functioning crisis management cooperation. Types of cooperative relations between the municipality and local churches could also be identified, as co-existing or co-operative. The theological fundament för religious organisations appears to be more important for them, but of varying significance for individual municipal crisis management leaders. More systematic studies of religious organisations’ resource contributions in crisis management at the local level are needed, not least in the light of Sweden’s recent NATO membership.
